Popular Plebiscite in Defense of State-Owned Companies in Minas Gerais

-

The Popular Plebiscite in Defense of the State-Owned Companies of Minas Gerais continues its consultation until May 1st, in various parts of the state, to ask the population of Minas Gerais what they think about Governor Romeu Zema’s (Novo) attempt to hand over strategic public companies from the state to the private sector.

Organized by activists from popular movements and unions, the committees continue to collect votes in strategic locations in Minas Gerais cities, such as universities, factories, residents’ associations, parishes, schools, cultural points, councils, among others.

On the voting ballot, two multiple-choice questions guide citizens: whether they agree that it is necessary to maintain in the state Constitution the right to consult whether or not companies should be sold; and if it is in favor of institutions such as the Minas Gerais Energy Company (Cemig), the Minas Gerais Sanitation Company (Copasa), the Minas Gerais Gas Company (Gasmig) and the Minas Gerais Economic Development Company (Codemig) remain public.
