Chinese citizens are prevented from buying properties in Florida after new law

One new law in Florida, USA, has banned many Chinese citizens to acquire properties in the state, especially in locations near military installations, airports or refineries. Under this law, buyers may face prison sentencewhile sellers and real estate agents can be held liable.

According to information from the O Globo portal, more than three dozen states have enacted or are considering similar laws to restrict land purchases by Chinese citizens and companies. The argument is that such transactions represent a growing threat to National security and that the federal government failed to contain the influence of Chinese Communist Party (PCC) in the USA.

Florida’s law, in effect since July, is one of the most comprehensive and not only prevents Chinese entities from purchasing agricultural land, but also prohibits most Chinese people without green cards from purchasing homes.

The governor Ron DeSantis signed the measure shortly before launching his presidential campaign, warning voters that China posed the greatest threat to the United States.
