Man dies after crash between ambulance and truck in southern Bahia

The driver of an ambulance died in the early hours of this Thursday (2) after a crash between the vehicle and a truck on Wednesday (1st), on a side road in the village of Novo Itamarati, known as “Biscó”, in Camacã, in southern Bahia.

The victim was identified as Romeu Seara Lima, 46 years old. He left a wife and four children.

According to city hall, the accident happened around 2pm, on a curve. The ambulance hit the truck, which was traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the impact, the vehicle was thrown into a wooded area and was destroyed.

Romeu Seara Lima was rescued and taken to the Itabuna Base Hospital, where he underwent surgery, but succumbed to his injuries at around 1:35 am. Another person in the ambulance suffered minor injuries. There is no information about the health status of the truck driver.

Camacã City Hall reported that it declared two days of mourning due to the driver’s death. His body will be laid to rest at the city council this Thursday and buried on Friday (2), in the district of São João do Panelinha, where he was born.
