Government of AL provides land to house the Parish of Menino Jesus de Praga

-

The State Government announced, this Wednesday (24), the transfer of land to house the Menino Jesus de Praga Parish, which operated in the Pinheiro neighborhood, in Maceió, but had to be closed in August 2021, due to to the subsidence of the soil in the region.

The news was announced on social media by the Secretary of State for Planning, Management and Heritage, Paula Dantas, in a meeting with the church’s pastor, Luiz Calado, and state deputy Dudu Ronalsa (MDB).

“The new space will offer a safe environment for the community to experience their faith, after the challenges faced in the Pinheiro neighborhood. We also recognize the importance of the social and welcoming role of the church for those most in need”, highlighted secretary Paula Dantas.

According to her, the Management department worked to speed up the legal procedures for transferring the land, which is in the same jurisdiction as the old parish (between the neighborhoods of Pinheiro and Santo Amaro).

“Gratitude to Governor Paulo Dantas and the Secretary of Planning, Management and Heritage, Paula Dantas, for their fundamental support in the provision of the new location. May the church’s presence continue to be a beacon of hope and unity for our community,” said Ronalsa.

The Infant Jesus of Praga Church is temporarily operating in a warehouse rented by Braskem at Rua Teófilo de Barros, number 122, in Pinheiro. The street is next to the old Civil Police Flagrant Center.

The Archdiocese of Maceió did not inform the exact location provided by the State nor did it announce when the parish will be definitively transferred.
