Bahia has more than 200 cases of ‘Oropouche Fever’

The number of cases of ‘Oropouche Fever’ increased in Bahia. According to information released by the Health Department of the State of Bahia (Sesab), as of April 24, 202 cases had been registered. At the moment, the state entity explained that epidemiological investigation actions in the regions have been intensified.

The municipalities notified were: Feira de Santana (1), Ibirapitanga (4), Camacan (1), Itabuna (1), Camamu (1), Gandu (29), Igrapiúna (5), Ituberá (1), Piraí do Norte (2), Taperoá (28), Valença (12), Wenceslau Guimarães (3), Salvador (6), Amargosa (5), Laje (22), Jiquiriçá (2), São Miguel das Matas (2), Mutuípe ( 20), Jaguaripe (3), President Tancredo Neves (9), Santo Antônio de Jesus (8), Teolândia (36) and Maragogipe (1).

Analysis of ‘Oropouche Fever’

State Epidemiological Surveillance technicians continue to capture the vector, the Culicoides paraensis mosquito, known as maruim or sandfly, to identify whether the animals are infected. This work seeks to better understand the disease scenario in Bahia.

The State Epidemiological Surveillance directorate informed, in a note, that it is important to use long clothes and repellents. It is also recommended that the person seek medical attention if symptoms occur. The Secretariat reinforces the importance of laboratory diagnosis for effective monitoring of cases and highlights epidemiological surveillance actions to monitor the situation.
