A man set fire to his own house after an argument with his wife, in Bocaiúva do Sul, in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. According to reports from those involved, the disagreement began when the woman refused to prepare a pastry.

“I was returning from a trip. I went to the market and purchased some items. When I got home, I asked her to prepare a pastry. She refused. Then she called our son. When I turned around, she stabbed me in the wrist. When she returned, I grabbed the gun and shot her in the hand,” she reported.
The man denies setting the house on fire. The accused claims he did not intend to kill his partner. “If I wanted to, I would have shot him in the chest or head. I opted for the hand to just scare her. I didn’t wish for death, just to cause fear,” he declared.
However, differing from her husband’s version, the woman registered a police report stating that she had been chased to her mother-in-law’s house and, as the man was unable to enter, he returned to his own residence and set it on fire.
The man’s lawyer emphasizes that there was no attempt at femicide, just an attempt at self-defense. The accused appeared at the police station on the morning of Thursday, 2, and was released after interrogation. The woman remains hospitalized and, as soon as she is discharged, she will be asked to provide clarifications to the authorities.
