It is a Brazilian adaptation of the BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated English series of the same name.

Another novelty hits the screen to entertain children. With production from Conspiracy and co-production of Gloobinho, “Bookaboo” premieres on May 7th, at 5pm. It is a Brazilian adaptation of the BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated English series of the same name.

In each episode, a special guest reads an emblematic story from Brazilian children’s literature, entertaining the rockstar dog Bookaboo and the viewers. Bela Gil and her son Nino, Pedro Bandeira, Klara Castanho, Dani Calabresa, Rodrigo França, Thales Bretas, Jéssica Ellen and Duda Beat are some of the personalities who will read stories by Brazilian authors, such as the iconic Chico Buarque, Ziraldo, Daniel Munduruku and Antônio Silver. “We are very happy with this premiere, which is so relevant to early childhood audiences. Despite being an adaptation, we arrived at a very Brazilian format, with guests who are very popular with the public and a very special curation of the titles presented.

We thought of a very diverse range of readings for the episodes, and we are sure that the little ones will love and have fun with the stories!” highlights Flávia Costa, Head of Children’s Content for Globo’s Digital Products and Paid Channels.

In the first season, Bookaboo will feature 12 titles, including classics and new releases from Brazilian children’s literature, such as “Little Yellow Hat”, “Pequeno Príncipe Preto” and “Até as Princesas Soltam Pum”. All titles were chosen and designed taking into account the formation of values and personality in early childhood.

The version incorporates national cultural habits, such as the taste for hugs and regional cuisine. Bookaboo, played by Fernando Gomes, will interact with guests in a very Brazilian way. His body expression will always be very affectionate: the friendly little dog will greet his guests with kisses on the face and express his joy with jumps and expansive gestures.

Bookaboo is a production that adopts the Eduntainment methodology, a neologism that combines the words “education” and “entertainment”. This is one of the lines of children’s learning in which there is the possibility of having fun and learning at the same time, mobilizing children’s attention and engage them in purposeful activities.

“At Bookaboo, we present Literature as an ‘exercise of being’. Self-esteem, representativeness, ancestry, belonging, differences, cultural plurality, self-confidence, humor, knowing how to live together, are some of the axes we chose to be part of the construction of emotional repertoires”, says Janaina Tokitaka, responsible for the Brazilian adaptation. “In addition, it is also important to bring narratives that take ethics and aesthetics into consideration,” adds Carol Sanches, the project’s pedagogical consultant.

The project is directed by Fernanda Novaes (“DPA” and “Acampamento de Magia Para Jovens Bruxos”) and co-directed by Fernando Gomes (“Cocoricó”, “Vila Sésamo” and “Castelo Rá-Tim Bum”), with production executive by Renata Brandão and Juliana Capelini. Originally created by Lucy Goodman, the Brazilian adaptation is by Janaina Tokitaka, who also develops it, alongside Celso Garcia.

“In addition to being fun, it is a program that brings adults and children together by encouraging reading, something so important in childhood. And all the stories are Brazilian, enabling an incentive for national literature”, highlights Juliana Capelini.
