CCJR approves project that provides incentives for community radio in MS

-

The CCJR (Constitution, Justice and Writing Committee) of the Legislative Assembly approved yesterday (24) a proposal that aims to institute measures to support and encourage the community broadcasting service in Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to the procedural procedure, the Bill (69/2024) now goes to the House Plenary for discussion and voting.

Authored by state deputy Pedro Caravina (PSDB), the proposal establishes guidelines to promote the development and strengthening of community radio stations, recognizing their important role in local communication and in promoting regional culture and identity.

“Among these actions, we highlight support for the maintenance and development of ongoing projects carried out by these broadcasters, measures to strengthen the service, favoring local production, the dissemination of regional culture and the promotion of freedom of expression, information and communication ”, says the text.

In his justification, the deputy highlights that community broadcasting is governed by Federal Law No. 9,612/1998 and is characterized by low frequency, limited power and restricted coverage, aimed at meeting specific needs of certain local communities.

“These radios play a fundamental role in giving communities a voice, especially in areas where conventional media may not be present or may not fully meet local demands”, highlights the Tucano parliamentarian.

Caravina also highlights that one of the most significant merits of community radio is its potential to promote and preserve the cultural identity of communities.
According to him, by offering space to local musicians and artists, these radio stations help to strengthen the sense of belonging and pride within communities.

The justification also highlights a recent measure by the federal government that authorized the registration of community radio stations to broadcast sponsorship in the form of cultural support.
Given this importance, Caravina asks for the support of parliamentarians to approve the project in the Plenary of the legislative house.
