The Government of Goiás should complete the first phase of the Oncological Complex (Cora) this year and has already received recognition from the Ministry of Health for the work of the Oncology Center at the Hospital Estadual do Centro-Norte Goiano

Works at the Reference Oncological Complex of the State of Goiás, in Goiânia, should have their first stage completed by the end of 2024

The Government of Goiás has made significant progress in making the state a reference in cancer treatment. In addition to the construction of the Reference Oncology Complex of the State of Goiás (Cora), in Goiânia, the Hospital Estadual do Centro-Norte Goiano (HCN), in Uruaçu, was recently accredited by the Ministry of Health (MS) as a Discharge Care Unit Complexity in Oncology (Unacon).

The objective is to expand the best service to the population of Goiás, served for years only by Hospital Araújo Jorge. Since 2019, this unit has received financial support from the State, through the Strengthening Plan. This year the agreement was renewed with the forecast of transfers of R$ 21.6 million to the hospital. “Goiás was lacking a lot with its population (who need cancer treatment). It was largely on Araújo Jorge’s shoulders. We are, little by little, changing this reality”, guaranteed governor Ronaldo Caiado.

One of the main works of the Government of Goiás, with 50% already completed, is Cora, close to Santa Genoveva International Airport. When it starts operating, the unit will perform highly complex procedures, such as bone marrow transplants. It will also have a large structure, with beds for hospitalization, a prevention wing, leisure space and accommodation for families, with a humanized and playful environment.

The first phase of the work, for children and adolescents, will be completed at the end of 2024. The final two stages will be built with federal resources from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) in the order of R$336 million.

To also guarantee excellence in service, processes, flows and training of professionals who will work at Cora, a delegation from SES-GO visited Hospital de Amor (HA), in Barretos (SP), this week. Administered by the Pio 12 Foundation, which will also manage Cora, the HA has international recognition for its high level of technology, humanized assistance and prioritization of teaching and research. “With this visit, we had a real idea of our governor’s dream, because it is a fantastic hospital, which will greatly change the level of care for children and adolescents with cancer in our state”, highlighted the state secretary of Health, Rasível Santos .

Recognition
The first unit in the state network accredited as Unacon by the Ministry of Health, HCN has proven its capacity to offer general, specialized and comprehensive assistance to cancer patients, from diagnosis to treatment. “It is an important milestone for us to be recognized as a reference in cancer treatment. This is the fruit of the hard work of countless professionals who tirelessly dedicate themselves to transforming the health scenario not only in the region, but throughout the State”, said the director of the unit, João Batista da Cunha.

The HCN Oncology Center will complete 2 years in July 2024 and was created to provide comprehensive and humanized oncological care for the entire population of Goiás. In the first three months of 2024 alone, it carried out 3,820 consultations, more than a thousand chemotherapy sessions, 494 patient discharges and 230 oncological surgeries, with the best against cancer for the entire population in terms of structure, technology or humanization.
