The recent violent incident at Escola Classe 803, in Recanto das Emas, where a woman attacked a teacher and a volunteer social educator, reignited discussions about safety in public schools in the Federal District. This episode is not just an isolated case, but a symptom of a larger problem: the lack of security guards and janitors in schools, who are replaced by outsourced services, often inadequate for the specific needs of a school environment.

Schools, spaces for learning and development, are becoming scenes of insecurity, where episodes of violence worry parents, students and education professionals. At Escola Classe 803, the management has been requesting qualified labor for the Recanto das Emas teaching region for two years without success. The absence of these professionals during the day was critically highlighted after the violent incident that occurred shortly after classes ended, a time when the presence of guardians is common and permitted.

SAE measures:

After becoming aware of the incident at Escola Classe 803 in Recanto das Emas, SAE-DF acted promptly. Union representatives visited the school to collaborate directly with management, seeking immediate solutions to the security crisis. With the aim of strengthening the surveillance and protection of the school community, SAE-DF proposed a strategic relocation plan, which includes the reallocation of effective security guards and concierge agents between local schools. This action aims to ensure a more constant and effective presence of trained professionals familiar with the specific needs of the school environment, thus providing a safer environment for students, teachers and staff.

At the same time, the Union is in advanced negotiations with the Department of Education to develop an impact study that will enable the creation of a special bonus. This measure aims to encourage permanent security guards who work at night to also take on daytime concierge duties, compensating them adequately through a replacement of the hazard pay and nighttime pay, without causing financial loss to the professionals. This initiative aims not only to improve the working conditions of security guards, but also to ensure continuous and efficient surveillance in schools throughout the period of operation, reinforcing the safety and protection of the entire school community.

Denivaldo Alves, General Secretary of SAE-DF, states: “This incident highlights the urgent need to rethink security in our schools. We cannot continue to depend on outsourced services that do not meet the specificities of the school environment. Outsourced security guards are often prepared only to protect property, and not the people who are part of our school community. We need public competitions to hire qualified professionals who understand and integrate into the educational environment.”

Ronnie Von Baptista Ferreira, director of SAE-DF and surveillance agent, also expresses concern about the outsourcing trend: “As someone who has been on the front line, I see that replacing effective security guards and gatekeepers who know and have a bond with the school community by third parties is a setback in our ability to guarantee a safe environment. It is essential that these professionals are more than just custodians of assets; they must be our children’s guardians and educators.”

The need for specialized and permanent security guards is highlighted not only by the recent incident of violence, but also by the inadequate response to emergencies and the lack of knowledge of the social context of students and staff. These professionals play an important role in establishing a safe and welcoming environment, essential for educational success.

Despite the discontinuation of these positions, but given this reality, SAE-DF urges the competent authorities to hold public competitions to fill these essential vacancies, thus guaranteeing the safety and well-being of everyone in the school environment. School safety cannot be compromised by a lack of adequate professionals; It is imperative to act now to prevent future incidents and promote a safe and productive learning environment.
