In session this Wednesday (24) afternoon, the Senate Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting attributed the audio to former referee Glauber do Amaral Cunha which John Textor says he has as proof. Senators Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) and Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ) confirmed, after the information was leaked.

The audio that the owner of SAF do Botafogo uses as evidence of game manipulation in Brazilian football, it would be from a game in Série C of the Campeonato Carioca, which is the fifth divisionaccording to the senators.

“There is no audio of manipulation by the Brazilian, let’s make it very clear,” said Carlos Portinho.

Glauber do Amaral Cunha worked until 2022 on games in the B2 and C series of Carioca, in addition to youth and women’s football divisions. He was due to testify next Monday (29), but due to the week’s holiday, the CPI chose to change the date to May 8.

The session will be closed, so as not to disclose information that could hinder the investigations.
The audio is part of the report delivered by Textor, on Monday (22), to the senators. The American businessman stated that he received it from someone at the CBF.

In the recording, the referee, whose identity is attributed by the senators to Glauber, says he did everything to manipulate the result of the matchbut it didn’t work out and, therefore, I wouldn’t receive the agreed money.

Others summoned by the Manipulation CPI

In this Wednesday’s session, the Game Manipulation CPI approved the requirements to call representatives from the CBF and the company SportRadar, as well as referees Raphael Claus and Daiane Caroline Muniz, among others.

The two were summoned to provide clarifications “regarding the application of the VAR systemparticularly in the 2022 and 2023 Brazilian Championships, and possible influences on match results”. In the videos presented by the owner of SAF do Botafogo, there are shots in which cameras not shown to the public would represent different decisions than those taken.

In addition to Carlos Portinho and Jorge Kajuru, senators Romário (PL-RJ) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) also made requests to hear from other characters in Brazilian football. Among them, the Botafogo CEO Thairo Arruda because he “publicly expressed his concerns about the integrity of Brazilian football resultsciting possible arbitration errors and insinuations of bookmaker involvement.”

The CPI also wants to hear representatives of SportRadar, a company hired by the CBF to identify possible cases of manipulation in Brazilian football and which produced reports “identifying 109 suspicious matches in 2023 alone”.

The chefe of the CBF Arbitration Commission, Wilson Seneme, is another who will be summoned by the senatorsas well as three other representatives of the entity: the competitions directors, Júlio Avellar, and the governance directors, Hélio Santos Menezes Júnior, and the integrity officer, Eduardo Gussem.
