The Amazonas Consumer Protection Institute (Procon-AM), in partnership with Amazonas Energia, opened a service point to register families that meet the requirements of the ‘Social Electricity Tariff’ program.

The service is also available at all dealership branches spread across the capital and interior municipalities.

The initiative allows low-income consumers to pay less for electricity supplied by distributors.

At Procon-AM, services will be provided by a team from the concessionaire, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 2pm, at the institute’s headquarters, located at Avenida André Araújo, 1,500, Aleixo, in the Central-South Zone.

To register, interested parties must present personal documents such as ID and CPF, Social Identification Number (NIS), BPC Number, Rani (for indigenous people who do not have ID and CPF), energy bill with the unique code.

‘Social Electricity Tariff’ Program

The following are eligible to request the benefit:

  • families registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico), with monthly per capita family income less than or equal to half the minimum wage;
  • elderly person aged 65 or over, people with disabilities, who receive the Continuous Social Assistance Benefit (BPC);
  • families registered in CadÚnico with a monthly income of up to three minimum wages who have a person with an illness or disability (physical, motor, hearing, visual, intellectual and multiple), whose treatment, medical or therapeutic procedure requires the continued use of devices, equipment or instruments which, for their operation, require the consumption of electrical energy.

Discounts granted under the Social Tariff follow the guidelines of Law 12,212/2010 of January 20, 2010:

  • I – for the portion of electricity consumption less than or equal to 30 (thirty) kWh/month, the discount will be 65%;
  • II – for the portion of consumption between 31 (thirty-one) kWh/month and 100 (one hundred) kWh/month, the discount will be 40%;
  • III – for the portion of consumption between 101 (one hundred and one) kWh/month and 220 (two hundred and twenty) kWh/month, the discount will be 10%;
  • IV – for the portion of consumption greater than 220 (two hundred and twenty) kWh/month, there is no discount provided for in the legislation.
