The Memorial Vale New Artists Notice had the deadline for receiving applications extended until April 30th. Through this project, new artists from Minas Gerais will be able to compete for prizes and have their artistic proposals exhibited at the Museum. Four artists residing in Minas Gerais with completed works, whether new or not, will be selected. In addition to the R$10,000 prize, the recipients will have their visual arts works exhibited in the Museum’s rooms in a collective exhibition that will be held in the first half of 2024. To participate, artists must be at the beginning of their career, considering that their Artistic career should not exceed ten years counting from the date of first participation in exhibitions. The collective exhibition with new artists will be curated by Fabíola Rodrigues and is scheduled to open on June 1st. Registration must be made on the website www.memorialvale.com.br

Memorial Vale, one of the cultural spaces of the Instituto Cultural Vale, is located in Praça da Liberdade, in Belo Horizonte, and has free entry. Find out more at https://memorialvale.com.br/pt/ .

Throughout its history, which turns 10 years old in 2024, the Memorial Vale New Artists Call has already included more than 25 artists. “The New Artists Notice has a surprising trajectory and results, as it has already revealed and boosted the careers of several visual artists from Minas Gerais. It is one of the main programs of Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, a cultural space of the Instituto Cultural Vale”, says the director of Memorial Vale, Wagner Tameirão. Artistic proposals in painting, sculpture, drawing, video, installations and photographs or in any other medium, format or language – from individual artists or collectives as long as they are legal entities – can participate in the initiative.

“Minas Gerais is a national reference in contemporary art and the holding of notices such as New Artists provides recognition for new talents. This allows us to have access to contemporary productions in their multiplicity and singularity”, explains the new curator of the Vale Memorial Fabíola Rodrigues. With a degree in Visual Arts from the School of Design of the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG) and a postgraduate degree in Art History from PUC Minas, Fabíola Rodrigues is from Minas Gerais, a researcher, curator and artist-educator. Her research is articulated in a field between art history and contemporary art, decolonial and countercolonial art, women, blackness and education, with a professional activity connected to the professionalization of artists and art educators, and the development of methodologies and convivial practices. Fabíola works and coordinates educational programs in institutions such as Fundação Clóvis Salgado (MG), Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB BH), Social Service of Commerce in Minas and São Paulo, Institute of Contemporary Art of São Paulo and Institute of Contemporary Art of Ouro Black. She has curated numerous exhibitions, including the exhibition “Imagens que não se conform”, at Memorial Vale.

“The New Artists Notice precisely wants to bring visibility and encourage the vast and diverse contemporary artistic production in Minas Gerais. By valuing artists at the beginning of their careers, Memorial Vale contributes to the cultural strengthening of the State and creates new perspectives and opportunities for artists. The public, in turn, will have the opportunity to glimpse new ways of seeing and feeling art”, says the director of Memorial Vale, Wagner Tameirão. The selected proposals will receive a prize worth R$10,000 (deducting taxes provided for in current legislation). The selection results will be announced on May 8th on the Memorial website.

The costs of transporting the works within the State, assembling the exhibition structure, publicity and support activities will be guaranteed by Memorial Vale. Furthermore, artists not residing in Belo Horizonte will have their travel, food and accommodation expenses also covered for negotiated and determined periods of time.
