A Senegalese immigrant died after falling from a building where a guesthouse operates on Rua Guaianases, in the Cracolândia region, in the center of São Paulo, on Tuesday night (23). According to witness reports, he was being pursued by the Military Police at the time of the fall.

A scuffle with other immigrants and police officers then began. There was a rush and insults at the police. Several vehicles occupied the street and the police threw stun bombs and shot rubber bullets.

In a note to Sheetthe SSP (Secretariat of Public Security) stated that the military police were called to respond to an incident of a person falling from a building and, during the assistance provided by the Fire Department, there was a disturbance after some people attacked the agents .

The fire department confirmed that a team went to the scene to provide assistance, but denied that its officers were attacked.

The witness version is different. They say that the fall occurred when the police were already in the building. A resident reported that the PM team approached a young man at the building’s entrance and, after releasing him, went upstairs. When the police officers came down, one of them said the phrase “The garbage is dead”.

In a video on social media, another resident said that the agents had already arrived throwing bombs and shooting.

There is no official information about what caused the man to fall. The case was registered in the 2nd Police District, in Bom Retiro. Human rights lawyers accompanied the victim’s family and friends and, according to them, the atmosphere was revolting.

Images recorded by residents of the region show that at least one Senegalese immigrant was detained and taken away in handcuffs in a Military Police vehicle during the action on the street.
