The Government of Tocantins, through the Secretariat of Original and Traditional Peoples (Sepot, informs that in the State 2,300 indigenous families and 671 quilombolas can have up to 100% discount on the electricity tariff. The data is part of a survey by Energisa, electricity company responsible for supplying Tocantins.

The information was passed on by Energisa coordinator, Narjara Bolentini, during a meeting with the head of Sepot, secretary Narubia Werreria; the director of Quilombola Protection, Ana Mumbuca; and the Planning and Fundraising manager, Filipi Holanda.

Currently, according to information from the company, 1,578 families already enjoy the benefit, with 891 being of indigenous origin and 687 of quilombola origin, as part of the Social Electricity Tariff.

This subsidy, established by the Federal Government, grants discounts that can reach up to 100% on the electricity bill for this specific group. The Social Tariff is available to families with a per capita monthly income equal to or less than half the minimum wage; families with illnesses that require electrical devices for treatment (with a monthly income of up to three minimum wages); indigenous families, quilombolas or with members who receive the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC).

To take advantage of the discounts, it is essential to keep the Federal Government’s Single Registry (CadÚnico) updated, a procedure that can be carried out at the Social Assistance Reference Centers (Cras) in each municipality.

Discounts vary according to monthly energy consumption. For consumption of up to 50 kWh per month, the discount can reach 100%. For consumption between 51 kWh and 100 kWh, the discount is 40%; between 101 kWh and 220 kWh, the discount is 10%. Consumptions greater than 221 kWh are not eligible for discounts.
