The Tocantins Civil Police are looking for Daniel Alves Fernandes, aged 35, identified as one of the members of the criminal trio specializing in ATM break-ins, which is the target of Operation Payback, launched on the 10th, to comply with warrants arrest and search and seizure in the cities of Fortaleza and Novo Oriente, both in Ceará.

The Specialized Division for the Repression of Organized Crime (DEIC/Palmas) provided contact details for anyone with information about Daniel’s whereabouts, just send a message on WhatsApp (63) 63 8131-0486 or call (63) 3218-6988. Anonymity is guaranteed.

Delegate Evaldo Gomes highlighted that to the detriment of Daniel, there are two outstanding preventive arrest warrants, referring to the break-ins of ATMs in the city of Miranorte, on March 18, 2020, and Pedro Afonso, on May 23, 2020. same year, from which they subtracted more than R$493.2 thousand.

“When we launched Operation Payback we managed to locate one of the targets on the same day, executing two warrants. The second target was located, on April 11, in Goiânia (GO), thus fulfilling two more warrants. The only thing missing is this last member of the trio who is responsible for several thefts in several states across the country”, highlights the delegate.

Operation Payback

Operation Payback was launched on April 10, to comply with six arrest warrants against the three investigated and another 12 home search and seizure warrants, in the cities of Fortaleza and Novo Oriente, in the state of Ceará.

The Operation is the result of investigations carried out by DEIC – Palmas with the aim of determining who was responsible for two incidents of break-ins at ATMs at bank branches in Tocantins. As the investigative work progressed, it was discovered that the three individuals, from the city of Novo Oriente (CE), are also responsible for several thefts using the same modus operandi in several states in the country such as São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Pará, among others.

Agencies

The group focuses on bank branches in cities in the interior, mostly from Banco Bradesco, which have little security infrastructure. “Before carrying out the break-ins, the group carries out a preliminary survey of the agencies’ routine, to identify the vulnerabilities of each location and stays in neighboring cities so as not to raise suspicions in the city that will be the target of the criminal action. The day before the thefts, they cause some type of breakdown in the self-service terminals using devices, then obtaining the password to open the ATMs. On the morning of the following day, they enter the password captured and subtract the amounts contained in the cash registers”, explains delegate Antonio Onofre, responsible for the investigations.

As soon as the perpetrators were identified, the police authorities issued arrest and search and seizure warrants, which were granted by the Criminal Courts of the Districts of Miranorte and Pedro Afonso.

Scheme

It is suspected that other people have participated in the scheme, competing with them in the role of hiding and disguising the origin of the amounts moved by the trio of criminals, who were also targets of search and seizure warrants.

In light of the suspicions, the judicial freezing of around R$1.8 million from the bank accounts of those involved was ordered, in addition to the seizure of several objects acquired with the proceeds of the crime.
