At the establishment, the animal consumed fruits and pine nuts, climbed shelves and even opened beer cans. The episode occurred over the weekend. Since then, several footage has circulated on the internet.

The first appearance was on Saturday (20) at around 6:30 pm. On that occasion, the monkey opened several market products, such as cans of beer and powdered milk. In view of the case, the city’s GOR (Animal Operations and Rescue Group) was called to rescue.

“We managed to locate the owner, and he went to the location to try to capture it. But he walked over the ceiling of the market and didn’t let anyone get close”, explained Wesley Henrique, who was involved in the incident.

Despite several attempts, the operation was unsuccessful. The Military Police were then called and issued a detailed complaint against the tutor for failing to exercise caution. At the end of the night, the monkey returned home.

However, on Sunday he returned to the market, where he was seen near the butcher’s shop eating pine nuts and opening beer cans again.

“Due to the fact that it is happening again and the animal is in a risk situation and causing risk, as it did not have the rabies vaccine up to date, it was captured on the same day and will now be sent to Cetas (Center for Wild Animals) in Florianópolis ”, informed Wesley.

According to the GOR, the species is common in the southern region of Brazil. “However, this animal was acquired from a legal breeder, and it even has an invoice, microchip and documentation from Ibama,” he explained.

A possible return of the monkey to its owner is uncertain. “He has to express an interest in obtaining the animal, however the court will determine this”, said the professional.
