This Tuesday (23), the full and alternate members of the District Policy Forum for Sustainable Families took office at the Family and Youth Secretariat (SEFJ). The forum’s first major challenge will be to prepare proposals for goals and indicators for the draft Complementary Law that establishes the District Family Plan (PDF), which is under discussion within the government.

The proposed District Family Plan is divided into 13 thematic axes, which will establish goals and indicators in the areas of housing, new technologies, education, health, safety, environment, transport, accessibility, sport and leisure, and for the first time in a Government, a secretariat looks more forcefully and evaluatively at the issue.

“The District Family Plan guarantees the rights of families, based on the public consultations we carried out. All Federal District Government bodies are participating with their proposals. The idea is that the District Forum also makes contributions, with proposals made by the population. We are looking for actions that generate results in the coming years, in terms of quality of life for families in the DF, with study and exchange of experiences”, highlights the manager of the Family and Youth Secretariat, Rodrigo Delmasso.

The coordinator of the Vira Vida program, Cida Lima, praised the initiative. “This forum is very important, a milestone for Brasília, so that families can be seen and heard. We want to help, through education, so that this department can enforce all these goals that are so necessary for families,” she said.

The forum follows the guidelines presented in the Venice Declaration of Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families. Created by International Federation For Family Development (IFFD) – an institution that is part of the UN Economic and Social Council, the project addresses the importance of family support policies for achieving the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations (UN).

Among the actions assigned, we highlight the holding of District Conferences on Public Policies for Sustainable Families, with the monitoring and analysis of the implementation process of deliberations made in these environments, in addition to monitoring with the Legislative Chamber of the DF in the processing of legislative projects related to Venice Declaration.

The next forum meeting is scheduled for May 21st, where forum members’ proposals for the debate will be presented.
