Cycle tourism circuit in the West of SC opens with Udesc operations

Residents and tourists who visit the Far West of Santa Catarina can now venture into a new experience in the region. This is because on Saturday, the 20th, the Old West Cycle Touring Circuit was officially inaugurated, a 297.65 km route that passes through the beauty of 13 municipalities belonging to the Association of Municipalities of Entre Rios (Amerios).

The ceremony was held at Praça da Bandeira, in Cunha Porã, and celebrated the installation of the signs that demarcate the route. The event began with a fair of products and services from local entrepreneurs, and continued in the afternoon with a collective bike ride to Sítio Verde Amora, in Caibi.

The initiative is the result of the Circuito Velho Oeste extension project, developed since 2018 by Center for Administration and Socioeconomic Sciences (Esag), Western Higher Education Center (CEO) It is Foz do Itajaí Higher Education Center (Cesfi)from the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc), in partnership with Amerios, municipal public managers and local businesspeople.

Since then, staff and volunteers have worked to establish the route, mobilize entrepreneurs and install signposts, the financing of which was made available in 2023 by Amerios.

About the route

The Wild West Cycling Circuit was defined based on georeferencing and seeks to encourage and enhance local tourism. The route passes through the cities of Cunha Porã, Caibi, Palmitos, Cunhataí, Saudades, Modelo, Maravilha, Tigrinhos, Bom Jesus do Oeste, Santa Terezinha do Progresso, São Miguel da Boa Vista, Flor do Sertão and Iraceminha.

The route has more than 20 partner businesses, which offer gastronomy, accommodation and regional activities. Each cyclist can consult the experience guide provided by the project and define their own itinerary. The route is considered moderate level and has a maximum elevation of 749 m.
