Shame: Sergipe’s garbage scandal is exposed to Brazil

Three landfills belonging to the company Torre Engenharia were denounced as irregular in an extensive report broadcast yesterday by TV Record. According to the article produced by reporter André Azevedo, there is suspicion of corruption in the granting of environmental licensing for the Itabaiana, Itaporanga D’Ajuda and Nossa Senhora do Socorro landfills. “The Public Ministry of Sergipe reported that the licenses were released despite several environmental irregularities”, reveals the article in Jornal da Record. To give you an idea of the size of the three landfills, they have areas equivalent, respectively, to 52, 18 and 49 football fields. When contacted, the Torre company did not respond, while the State Environmental Administration promised to carry out inspections in the places where thousands of tons of garbage are placed in the open, to the dismay of the unfortunate people of Sergipe who live in the surrounding area. I hope that Record’s report serves to wake up the state authorities responsible for monitoring the environment. (See the report) Only Jesus in the cause!

The dick ate

If it hadn’t been for the group in charge of this, yesterday’s session of the Socorro City Council would have ended in a fight. The confusion began because councilor Luiz Paulo Panzuá (PT) was unable to register to speak. After the majority of parliament voted against the suggestion to reopen registrations, the uproar began. There was pushing from here and threats from there, until the calmer councilors managed to bring the water to the boil. Even so, the session had to be closed due to lack of atmosphere. Home vote!

Keeping an eye on the camera

The state president of Solidariedade, Valadares Filho, brought together pre-candidates for councilors in Aracaju to discuss the upcoming electoral campaign. After the meeting, Vavazinho stated that the party is committed to making a difference and building good proposals for the capital of Sergipe. Solidariedade’s tendency is to support pre-candidate for Mayor Luiz Roberto (PDT), whose electoral leaders are none other than governor Fábio Mitidieri (PSD) and mayor Edvaldo Nogueira (PDT). Oh good!

Beating retreat

The state secretary for Women, delegate Danielle Garcia (MDB), may leave her position in the next few days, according to journalist Anderson Cristian. The colleague reveals that, although the argument for leaving is the need to dedicate himself to the pre-candidacy for mayor of Aracaju, in fact “Daniele is in an extremely uncomfortable position as he cannot make a public statement about his secretariat colleague, the Turismo, Marcos Franco, who is facing legal proceedings on charges of having assaulted his ex-wife”. Marminino!

Quaquaraquaquá

See what a fellow columnist published the other day: “It seems that each of the 75 municipalities in Sergipe will have its own literature academy. Then there will be academies by neighborhood and street. And Sergipe will become an academic paradise.” Yes, it could be!

Down with prejudice

The Assembly’s Citizenship and Human Rights Commission met, yesterday, with leaders of the terreiros peoples to discuss human rights violations with people of African-based religions. Author of the request calling for the meeting, state deputy Linda Brasil (Psol) stated that religious racism ends up generating intolerance and prejudice. In turn, deputy Garibalde Mendonça (PDT), announced that the Legislature will promote, next month, a public hearing to discuss the Racial Equality Statute. Supimpa!

Caatinga Day

Caatinga Day, to be celebrated next Sunday, was created with the aim of not only honoring this unique biome, but also raising people’s awareness of the importance of its conservation for environmental balance. The caatinga encompasses all states in the Northeast and part of Minas Gerais. This biome is still very little studied, although it comprises 10% of the national territory, with 844 thousand square kilometers. Long live the caatinga!

Exchange of posts

Governor Fábio Mitidieri (PSD) flies to the United States this week. It will honor our daughter Ana Célia in Cinema, who is graduating in Cinema. The transfer of the position to vice Zezinho Sobral (PDT) is scheduled for next Friday. This will be Mitidieri’s fourth trip abroad since he took office in government. The last one was to the United States, in August 2023, to participate in the Lide Brazil Development Forum, an event that brought together business leaders, governors and academics. All right then!

Have you already taken the title?

Attention: the deadline to obtain your voter registration card and be able to vote in this year’s elections ends on the 8th. To do so, you must request the document directly from the nearest electoral registry, including to collect biometrics. This is also the deadline to regularize the electoral situation, request a transfer of residence or update registration data. After the 8th, the electoral register will be closed, preventing latecomers from exercising their right to vote. Therefore, my little comrade, hurry up. Oh!

Camouflaged truth

Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT) swears that the Mitidieri government is trying to camouflage the true situation at the Emergency Hospital in Aracaju. According to the PT member, “while advertisements extol supposed advances in health, the reality is cruel: orthopedic surgeries, essential for so many people in Sergipe and Sergipe, are simply not being carried out”. Finally, Carvalho regrets that public money is paying for parties and events, “in a clear demonstration of distorted priorities”. Compassion!

Rain, rain!

And it continues to rain in Aracaju and on a good afternoon in Sergipe. So, as Jorge Ben Jor so well sings, “it rains rain/it rains non-stop”, especially in the sertão of Sergipe, where the country man prays for it to continue raining in order to allow the planting of crops and guarantee a good grain harvest. Let us pray!
