In a joint initiative, different Bahian bodies signed a technical cooperation agreement this Tuesday, 23rd. The objective is to promote sustainable practices in the mining sector in Bahia.

The work involves the Bahia Mineral Research Company (CBPM), the Secretariat of Labor, Employment, Income and Sports (Setre), the Superintendency of Economic Studies (SEI) and the Bahia Gas Company (Bahiagás).

The event took place at the CBPM headquarters, in the Administrative Center, in Salvador, and was attended by the organization’s CEO, Henrique Carballal, who explains that the focus of this partnership is to promote economic development combined with social development.

“If we integrate all government sectors, we will be able to ensure that all sectors of our economy can, in fact, achieve their objectives, which is to guarantee the people of Bahia work, employment, income, education, health, preserving the environment”, declared Carballal, also highlighting that this is an important step in the government structure, an important milestone, where transversality will achieve the greater objective, which is the social development of the people of Bahia.

Also participating in the formalization of the agreement were the head of Setre, Davidson Magalhães, the director of SEI, José Acácio Ferreira, and the CEO of Bahiagás, Luiz Raimundo Gavazza.

Among the main actions are the hiring of local labor for the new industries brought into the state from SineBahia, in addition to the expansion of gas supply to areas with mineral activity in the interior of the state. The efficient use of technology will also be prioritized, in order to promote gains in agility, productivity, transparency, sustainability and cost reduction.

The agreement also provides for the qualification and registration of workers to work with mining companies. For this, the SineBahia structure will be used. If there is no service unit in the city, the mobile SineBahia will be made available or a temporary station will be installed. The body’s expertise will also be used to identify and register vacancies reported by companies.

According to Secretary Davidson Magalhães, the mineral segment should not be seen only from an extractive aspect, but must combine the expansion of the sector with the generation of employment and income for the local population: “CBPM has carried out a very large expansion process of mineral exploration throughout the state of Bahia. This also involves labor qualifications. We will identify the type of professional qualifications necessary to incorporate regional labor and, from there, we will offer these courses”, pointed out the Setre head.

The CEO of Bahiagás, Luiz Gavazza, highlighted the importance of this partnership to expand the company’s internalization process, taking natural energy to other cities in Bahia. “BahiaGás is in the process of expanding gas supply, complying with the dictates of the concession and the encouragement and guidelines that the State Government, which is the controlling partner, gives us. We are moving inland and, now, we are building the largest gas distribution pipeline in the country, with 306 kilometers, from Itagibá to Brumado. In this movement, we will be serving the important segment of the Bahian economy, which is not yet served by natural gas, which is mining”, said Gavazza, who also revealed the expectation of expanding BahiaGás’ operations to Caetité, Piatã and in the north of State.

SEI, with technical and scientific knowledge about the social and economic reality of the state, will provide agencies with secure and strategic information for decision-making. “We are going to use all of SEI’s intelligence, its technological tools to be able to analyze these public policies that CBPM will be implementing, to identify what the effective gains are for society”, explains the general director of the Superintendence, José Acácio Ferreira.

Also present at the event were the president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (Fieb), Carlos Henrique Passos, Giulliana Brito, chief of staff of the State Tourism Secretariat, and representatives from the sector.
