In Jequiá da Praia, on the South Coast of Alagoas, a 72-year-old man was arrested for a murder committed in 2012 at Sítio Belo Horizonte, in the municipality of Traipu, Agreste de Alagoas. The man was captured this Tuesday (2), in Povoado Ponta de Pedra.
According to delegate Sidney Tenório, from the Special Investigation Unit (NIESP), the elderly man was taken to the São Miguel dos Campos Regional Police Station and is awaiting the custody hearing, which will be held by the Traipu District.
The crime killed a man identified as João Paulo de Araújo, aged 46, who was a neighbor of the author. They would have had a disagreement over animals that belonged to both of them and were entering the properties.
There were exchanges of death threats and requests for peace from both their families before the murder. On the night the crime was recorded, the perpetrator approached the victim’s house with a shotgun and shot João Paulo in the head, who died at the scene.
João Paulo’s teenage daughter, who was 13 years old at the time, was close to her father and ended up shot in the shoulder. Since then, the author lived in Jequiá da Praia with his family.
