The Secretariat of Ports, Airports and Railways of Santa Catarina (SPAF) requested authorization to establish two new public airports in the State. Requests for the implementation of Pinhalzinho and Rio Negrinho Public Airports were filed with the National Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC).

The documents request analysis by the federal body with a view to issuing a grant to the State Government for the exploration of new airports. The activity relating to the operation of public airport infrastructures in the country is originally conferred on the Union, which can pass this responsibility on to the states.

These airports are part of our state expansion planning. They were included in the State Aviation Plan (Paesc) and this process is part of the entire process necessary for them to be officially recognized and subsequently receive investments”, explains the Secretary of Ports, Airports and Railways (SPAF), Beto Martins.

The State intends to adopt the same procedure for Itapiranga Airport, also included in Paesc, when all the necessary documentation is gathered to follow the process.

The municipality of Pinhalzinho is the owner of an appropriate area, whose technical feasibility for implementing the aerodrome has been approved. The municipal executive has already contracted an executive project for implementing the airport.

The municipality of Rio Negrinho has an area where the local Aero Club operates, with an asphalt runway measuring 1,198 meters long and 22 meters wide. The municipality is authorized by municipal law to acquire the area.

Serra Santa Catarina Airport

The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), through Ordinance 14099/SIA, recognized the change in the name of the Ricardo Sell Wagner Airport – Serra Catarinense Regional Airport, formerly the Planalto Serrano Regional Airport, in Correia Pinto.

The name change aimed to enhance tourism in the region and was proposed by state deputy Lucas Neves, in State Law, approved by Alesc in 2023. The new name had the support of the Association of Municipalities of the Mountain Region (Amures), the Lages Business Association (ACIL), the Chamber of Store Managers (CDL) and the Serra Catarinense Tourism Council (Conserra).
