In Manaus, the new speed cameras will be installed on Avenida do Turismo, Coronel Teixeira, Santos Dumont, Torquato Tapajós and Governador José Lindoso, according to the Municipal Institute of Urban Mobility (IMMU). The technical study of the installation of the equipment, according to the institute, will be based on the occurrence of traffic accidents with injured victims and fatal accidents.
On March 10, Mayor David Almeida announced that speed cameras, known as “owls”, would begin to be implemented within a month on avenues where an increase in the number of traffic accidents had been recorded in the capital.
Also according to the mayor, after the installation of the radars, drivers will still have a 90-day educational period, without fines being charged.
IMMU also stated that the equipment will monitor, for three months, without the incidence of fines, on an educational basis.
According to IMMU, inspection points will be preceded by speed regulation signs and inspection information, in accordance with the Brazilian Traffic Code.
Company signs with City Hall
There is still no forecast for the operation of the little owls, the company responsible for installing the equipment must sign the contract on April 10th. The bidding process was approved in the Official Gazette of the Municipality, on March 12th of this year.
According to the institute, The equipment will be installed after the contract is signed, with a date to be defined.
