The Pact Against Hunger, created to combat malnutrition and food insecurity, distributes basic baskets made up of 12 food items of high nutritional quality to low-income families, with a per capita income of up to R$105. These families are registered with CadÚnico and have an updated Social Identification Number (NIS).
According to State Attorney Luís Vale, the Pact against Hunger is not a new initiative, but rather an extension of existing efforts to combat hunger in Alagoas. He highlighted that the action is supported by the Budget Law and follows legal precepts, allowing the continuity of actions even during electoral periods.
Asked about the electoral use of the program, the prosecutor stated that the accusations made at the time were unfounded, as the competitors in the campaign for the Government of Alagoas recognized the importance of the program in combating hunger in the state. He highlighted that the distribution of basic food baskets in 2022 was not electorally motivated, but rather aimed to guarantee people’s right to basic food.
Luís Vale emphasized that the Electoral Law allows the continuity of pre-established projects even during electoral periods, as long as they are aligned with current laws. He concluded that the delivery of basic food baskets is essential to guarantee access to basic food for families in vulnerable situations in Alagoas.
