Woman is shot in the chest during robbery, in Tijuca; bandits steal car and crash into tree | Rio de Janeiro

Rio – A woman was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery at around 2pm this Tuesday (2), on Rua Moraes e Silva and Rua São Francisco Xavier, in Tijuca, in the North Zone of Rio. Firefighters sent the victim in serious condition to Hospital Israelita Albert Sabin, in the Maracanã neighborhood, also in the North Zone. The criminals even stole the victim’s car, but crashed the vehicle into a tree while escaping.

According to the Military Police, agents from the 6th BPM (Tijuca) were on foot patrol in the area when they witnessed the crime. When they approached the five bandits, who were divided into three motorcycles, shots were exchanged. The two men riding pillions tried to escape with the stolen car, but had to abandon the car after colliding with the tree.

The woman was shot in the chest, shoulder height, shortly after being removed from the car. It is not known whether the shot came from the criminals or the police. It was also not known whether the suspects were arrested. The location was preserved for forensic examination, and the case was registered at the 18th DP.
