Deputy defended measures adopted in Balneário Camboriú and Jaraguá do Sul

Order from Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), providing for the application of fines to municipalities in Santa Catarina and mayors that promote the removal of residents from the streets, with coercive shelter, and involuntary treatment for addicts who use drugs in public places generated criticism from state deputy Antídio Lunelli.
In the document released by the STF, a direct sanction is explained: a fine of R$10,000 to be applied to any municipal authority that promotes the forced removal of homeless people. This value also applies to the municipality in case of non-compliance with the established measures.
In the Alesc gallery, the parliamentarian criticized the decision. “For Minister Alexandre de Moraes, mayors cannot commit involuntary hospitalization or take care of these homeless people. For him, the good and healthy thing, the humanly worthy thing, is for cities to have true cracolândias. Spaces for people to live like zombies. Not here in Santa Catarina,” said Lunelli.
“It is very easy to get stuck in deciding which public policies can or cannot be implemented. Violence is leaving these people living on the streets without any dignity, putting themselves and others at risk,” she added.
The parliamentarian also expressed solidarity with the mayors who were affected by the measure and said that it is necessary to fight against arbitrary decisions that are disconnected from the reality of the people of Santa Catarina.
