-

Railway cargo movement grew in Santa Catarina in the first quarter of 2024. Between the months of January and March, 1.7 million tons were registered, which represents an increase of 10.8% compared to the same period in 2023. The data were investigated by the Secretariat of Ports, Airports and Railways (SPAF), with information from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

The performance of concessionaires operating in Santa Catarina was slightly above the national average, which was 10.6% higher compared to the first quarter of 2023.

“It is an important and motivating result for the rest of the year. In these first months of 2024, the sector is doubling the average performance it had throughout 2023 and thus the challenge and expectation remain for these rates to be maintained until the end”, states the Secretary of Ports, Airports and Railways, Beto Martins.

Rumo Logística, the Malha Sul concessionaire, handled 989 thousand tons of cargo. Via Tereza Cristina Railway, 757 thousand tons were moved.

Movement on the 763 kilometers of railway network in operation corresponds to 1.45% of national movement, which was 119.6 million tons in the first quarter of 2024.
