After filling the Sala Cecília Meireles and visiting the Rio Art Museum, London and a jazz festival in Buenos Aires, Antonio Guerra Trio begins today a tour of four performances at the SESCs in Rio de Janeiro.
“Having an original work with piano, bass and drums has always been a dream. These instruments are roots of each other and together we delve into research into our popular culture, where we find vast space for creation. The meeting of Guto Wirtti, from Rio Grande do Sul, Cassius Theperson, from Pará and I from Rio, makes me feel in this succinct formation the greatness of our country and our utopian capacity for dialogue. From Tupinambás to street trickery, from waterfalls to traditional samba, the Brazilian festival is capable of stopping wars. I can’t wait to share our experiences with our audience and on the beautiful stages of Sesc in the state of Rio de Janeiro”, enthuses Guerra, who has already performed alongside Silvério Pontes, Elza Soares, Martinho da Vila, Mart’nália , Rubel, among others, as pianist, accordionist and arranger.
For “Rabo de Arraia”, the pianist invited Guto Wirtti, bassist (heavy, who has worked with names such as Hamilton de Holanda, Yamandu Costa, João Bosco, Ed Motta, Luis Melodia, Wilson das Neves, Milton Nascimento, Jorge BenJor, and many more), and Cassius Theperson, drummer (first class, who has shared stages and tracks with Paulo Moura, Hermeto Pascoal, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Lenine, João Donato, Wilson das Neves, Alceu Valença, Zé Ramalho, Carlinhos Brow , Rildo Hora, among others), to form the trio.
In the repertoire, compositions by Antonio that explore this formation, which is as consecrated as it is expansive in its almost infinite possibilities. The audience at the four SESCs in Rio de Janeiro will know all the songs on the album, such as the title track, “Arara Azul” and “Cadente”, inspired by a shooting star that Antonio saw streak across the sky shortly after the departure of his great friend and musician Chico Oliveira, to whom he dedicates all his work. Also noteworthy are “Indonesia”, composed during a residency in Asia, and “Angela Pralini”, a tribute by the pianist to a character by the writer Clarice Lispector. There will be four nights of pure musical delight.
