Congressman mentions that the first lady may have “incurred in the crimes of coercion during the process and influence peddling”

Federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) sent on Sunday (31.mar.2024) a criminal report to the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) in which she requests the investigation of first lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, Janja, for alleged interference in the trial of former football player Robson de Souza, known as Robinho. He was convicted of the crime of rape by the Italian courts and is serving his sentence in Brazil.

“We contacted the MPF yesterday, with news of the crime and the consequent request to open an investigation against Janja due to the possibility that she may have committed crimes of coercion during the process and influence peddling, according to a report published by the press”wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Columnist Lauro Jardim, from the newspaper The globepublished on Sunday (31 March) in his column, a report in which he said that the first lady called the rapporteur of the Robinho case at the STJ (Superior Court of Justice), Francisco Falcão, to “press him”. The magistrate voted in favor of serving the sentence in Brazil.

“If the transfer of the execution of the sentence is not approved, the victim will have his dignity once again outraged, as the criminal will go completely unpunished”he stated in his vote.

O Power360 contacted Janja’s press office and Secom (Secretary of Social Communication) to obtain the first lady’s official position on the allegations. However, she did not receive a response until the report was published. The space remains open for future demonstrations.

ROBINHO CASE

In 2017, Robinho was sentenced to 9 years in prison for the crime of rape by the Italian courts. Investigations indicate that, in 2013, he and 5 friends allegedly got a 23-year-old Albanian girl drunk in a nightclub in Milan. The young woman was allegedly gang-raped by the 6 of them.

The Milan Court of Appeal confirmed the conviction in 2020, but as there was an appeal, Robinho remained free and returned to Brazil. In January 2022, the Italian Court of Cassation denied the defense’s appeal and he was sentenced to 9 years in prison. As it is the highest body of Italian Justice, there is no possibility of reversing the decision.

On March 20, the STJ decided to immediately comply with the former athlete’s sentence in Brazil.

The former athlete arrested on March 21 by the PF (Federal Police) in Santos (SP). He is serving his sentence in the Tremembé penitentiary, in the interior of São Paulo.
