The Permanent Labor and Employment Committee of the Rio Chamber will hold a public hearing next Thursday (4), at 7 pm, to debate the readjustment of the food benefit for municipal employees. Representatives from the Municipal Court of Auditors, the General Comptroller of the Municipality and the Secretariat of Finance and Planning were invited to participate.

Councilor Wiliam Siri (PSOL), who chairs the commission, highlights that the hearing is an opportunity to voice the struggle of civil servants, who have been waiting for 12 years for an adjustment to the Food and Meal Vouchers, paid today in the amount of R$ 12. “We are demanding fulfillment of a promise made by the mayor, who included this demand in his 2020 Letter of Commitment”, recalls the parliamentarian.

An amendment that provided for the restoration of the value was included in the 2024 budget law, but was vetoed by the mayor. Therefore, a petition was created by Siri to pressure City Hall to update the benefit. “In an expensive city like Rio de Janeiro, it becomes impossible to shop or eat on a daily basis for that amount. That’s why my role is to demand the appreciation of civil servants, who contribute so much to the functioning of our city”, he pointed out.

In addition to Siri, councilors Marcelo Arar (PRD) and Dr. Carlos Eduardo (PDT) are part of the commission.
