State Government launches last stage of the vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease in RJ

The State Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Supply, in partnership with Carmo City Hall, is holding the event to launch the last stage of vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease, this Tuesday, the 2nd, in the municipality of Carmo. At this stage, cattle and buffaloes of all ages will be immunized throughout the month of April.

The opening of the campaign will be attended by municipal secretaries, mayors and rural producers.

– With the anticipation of the vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease, from May to April, all livestock farmers need to be attentive and active throughout the process, from vaccination to declaration. What is Foot and Mouth Disease?

Foot and Mouth Disease is a highly contagious animal disease, caused by a virus, which affects species of cloven-hoofed animals, among others, production animals: cattle, buffaloes, pigs, goats and sheep.

It is considered the main animal disease with an economic impact, due to the productive losses it causes in affected herds, as well as the sanitary restrictions that affect the intra-municipal, inter-municipal, interstate and international trade of animals, their products and by-products.

Mandatory vaccination

Vaccination is mandatory. Producers who do not immunize and declare their herd vaccinated may be fined and have their property closed. The registration must be delivered or sent within 5 days after immunization to one of the Municipal Agricultural Defense Centers or Posts.

– It is a process of replacing vaccination with increased health surveillance throughout Rio de Janeiro, and it is essential that the registration of rural properties is updated. This procedure is carried out at the Agricultural Defense Center or Municipal Post when submitting the vaccination declaration – warns the Agricultural Defense superintendent, Paulo Henrique Moraes.
