WITH FACTORIES STOPPED IN BAHIA AND SERGIPE, UNIGEL WAITS FOR FULFILLMENT OF PRECEDENT CONDITIONS TO ACTIVATE CONTRACT WITH PETROBRAS

With the activities of the nitrogen fertilizer factories in Camaçari, Bahia, and Sergipe, temporarily halted, which led to the dismissal of 255 employees, Unigel still maintains a minimum infrastructure for maintenance and preservation of assets, in addition to complying with legal commitments and socio-environmental issues in both states.

At the end of February, the company presented an “Extrajudicial Recovery Plan” and obtained 90 days of protection to renegotiate a debt of R$3.9 billion with creditors.

“Unigel suffered losses throughout 2023 and also in 2024, but even so it preserved the majority of its staff, in the expectation that negotiations and work fronts seeking to reduce the price of gas would be successful. natural gas via the Federal Government, as well as a temporary alternative via a tolling contract, in addition to the strategic partnership in renewable fuels with Petrobras, which have not come into force so far”, explained Unigel in a note to the Bahia Economica.

Over the tolling contract (manufacturing to order) with Petrobrásthe company informed the portal that it is still awaiting compliance with precedent conditions, which was submitted for analysis by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) for reasons of “internal governance of the state-owned company”.

Despite the wait, Unigel reinforces that it believes in the awareness of the Federal Government, through the National Congress, and Petrobrás, regarding the pricing policies for natural gas destined for the national industry, which is largely undermined by the lack of competitiveness generated by the high cost of this raw material.

In a note sent to the report, the company also highlights that, if the pending issues and precedent conditions are met, a reassessment of the resumption of production may be carried out.

“The company continues to search for strategic partnerships with the aim of making its projects viable and resuming production as soon as possible,” the company said to Bahia Economica.
