A group of seven people were arrested red-handed on Tuesday (26), in Rio de Janeiroon suspicion of forming a gang that stole information from elderly people to obtain loans in the victims’ names.

According to investigations, the criminals’ preferred targets were retirees and pensioners.

Agents from the 21st DP (Bonsucesso) and the 38th DP (Brás de Pina) made the arrests in a location that operated as an illegal call center in Bonsucesso, in the north of the capital.

According to the Civil Police, the teams identified the center in full operation, with six attendants and a cleaning lady.

“Outside, the police noticed that there was a man trying to escape the action. After investigations, the officers verified that he was the owner and responsible for the place,” the police reported.

Computers, hard drives, cell phones, notebooks and even a basket filled with chocolates and other items that would serve as a prize for those who reached their goals were seized.

Part of the group confessed to the crimes. To the police, the suspects admitted that they made calls, preferably to elderly women, with the false claim that they were offering credit cards.

When they accepted the proposal, the victims received a link and, upon accessing it, their biometric data was stolen and used to obtain fraudulent loans in their names.

The scam was also applied against INSS (National Social Security Institute) policyholders.
