Data released this Wednesday, 27th, by the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) and analyzed by the Observatory of Sergipe, linked to the Special Secretariat for Planning, Budget and Innovation (Seplan), indicate that the state of Sergipe was proportionally what created the most formal jobs among the Northeast states, in the month of February (0.24%).

That month, Sergipe recorded a positive balance of 1,579 new formal jobs. In the year to date (with adjustment), 2,423 vacancies were created. The last 12 months (with adjustment) have accumulated 14,976 jobs. The stock of jobs in the month was 329,562 vacancies.

According to the Observatory’s analysis, the volume registered in the second month of 2024 was driven by the services and construction sectors, which registered 1,593 and 470, respectively.

Service performance was driven, above all, by the following segments: education (491), more specifically by early childhood education (179) and primary education (166); public administration in general (146); human health care activities (129) and supply and management of human resources (111).

As for the construction sector, the result was mainly driven by the construction of buildings (214) and specialized services for construction (167).

The survey also indicated that, in February, the municipalities in Sergipe that generated the most jobs were Aracaju (1,509), Poço Verde (166) and Lagarto (143).

National scenario

In Brazil, there was an expansion of jobs with a total of 306,111 jobs. In relation to the previous month’s stock, with the exception of Alagoas (-0.65%), Maranhão (-0.19%) and Paraíba (0.0%), all federative units recorded a positive relative change.

The biggest increases were observed in Paraná (1.06%), Santa Catarina (1.06%) and Roraima (1.03%). Sergipe (0.24%) had the 17th highest variation in the country and the first in the Northeast.

The Secretary of State for Labor, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Jorge Teles, highlights the importance of the actions developed by the government in opening up these opportunities, such as creating a business environment and attracting new investments, in addition to strengthening agriculture and various production chains such as tourism, the clothing segment, and the oil and gas areas.

“All of this has resulted in the creation of new opportunities so that people from Sergipe can have more income. This is what the people expect from the government: the creation of opportunities, of social development. As the governor rightly says, the biggest social program is employment. The wheel of the economy is turning and this creates opportunities in all sectors. When money circulates, you enable not only formal employment, but also the development of crafts, entrepreneurship – as has been the government’s focus in all the events they hold and offer commercial space for crafts and the solidarity economy” , he highlights.
