Sada opens registrations for inseminations in cattle

-

The Secretariat of Technical Assistance and Agricultural Defense (Sada) has registrations open for the Piauí + Genetics program. Creators interested in participating in the program can register through the Sada website or look for the regional offices of Sada/Adapi that are responsible for your municipality or the Department of Agriculture of municipalities that have an agreement with Sada until April 10th. At this stage, the forecast is that Piauí + Genética will serve 2,000 small and medium-sized breeders, performing fixed-time artificial insemination (IATF) on 26,000 animals. The focus is on beef and dairy cattle.

The program will be implemented with an initial financial contribution made by the State Government, in the amount of R$4 million. The resource will be used to hire the company that will carry out the inseminations and to acquire the semen of the Nelore (beef cattle), Holstein, Gir Leiteiro and Girolando (dairy cattle) breeds, in addition to storage cylinders for the material.

“We have started registration for the program and will start carrying out inseminations in cattle. It is important to highlight that we will acquire the best quality semen with a focus on beef and dairy herds. In beef cattle, we will use semen from Nelore bulls, which is the breed that predominates in almost 80% of the national beef herd. In dairy cattle, as we have a variability in blood grade, in crossings of zebus and taurine animals, we will use the Holstein, Gir Dairy and Girolando breeds, so that we can give the breeder the opportunity to make the most suitable mating for the our type of creation and better adaptation to our climate”, says the secretary of Sada, Fábio Abreu, who also draws attention to criteria that must be followed by the producer, so that he is able to participate in the program.

“In addition to paying attention to the registration deadline, the producer must be aware that to participate in the program he must have registered with Adapi, in addition, the herd’s vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease must be up to date”, concludes the manager, remembering that Piauí will carry out the last herd immunization from April 1st to 30th, and that at this stage there will be no extension of the deadline.

Before registrations began, Sada’s Innovation and Operations, Project Development and Fundraising departments held a virtual meeting with regional coordinators and extensionists, to align the program’s dissemination and execution strategies.

“We had the opportunity to better show the essence of Piauí +Genética, our objectives and where we want to get to. In this first moment, which is the first registration for the program, we go over the need to be closer to the creator, providing guidance, answering questions, so that the program can be as successful as possible. I am sure that we will make significant progress towards evolving our program, because this technique of artificial insemination in cattle is, above all, the implementation of a culture, where the breeder can more easily understand some bottlenecks that prevent his herd from grow and improve genetically and quantitatively”, says André Nogueira, director of Innovation.

Libonato de Carvalho, director of Operations, Project Development and Fundraising, explains that Piauí +Genética will also contribute to rural extension and technical assistance actions carried out by the secretariat, highlighting the work that will be carried out by Sada extensionists.

“To effectively participate in the program, each producer must follow certain criteria, such as, for example, a health and herd management protocol, be up to date with vaccinations, have a small corral, a small chute, have food for this herd, grass, be it gram or legume forage. The fact is that food is an indispensable factor. And Sada will act in the guidance and educational process of these producers. Our technicians, who work at the front end, will play a fundamental role, they will receive the demands and follow all the steps”, explains the director.

DONATION OF GOATS

The kickoff of Piauí +Genética took place in December 2023, with the distribution of 30 breeding animals, of the goat type, to small producers in Piauí in the cities of Anísio de Abreu, Barras, Brejo, Campo Maior, Jatobá and José de Freitas . The action was carried out during the 72nd edition of the Piauí Agricultural Exhibition (Expoapi). At the time, the animals were chosen with the screening of the Piauí Association of Goat and Sheep Breeders of the State of Piauí (Apiccovi).

The animals delivered are serving the properties for a specified period of time, on a rotating basis. “When they are covering their daughters, we will collect these animals and replace a new animal in this herd, until we can feel the effect of the genetic improvement”, says André Nogueira.

Sada technicians are monitoring the entire process, as part of the rural extension actions that are part of the program.
