Three more deaths from dengue were confirmed, this Wednesday (27), by the State Department of Health (SES). With this, Rio Grande do Sul reaches 45 deaths caused by the disease in 2024 alone.
The three deaths occurred in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. In Canoas, a woman died 27 year old woman, with no declared comorbidities. The death occurred on March 19.
In São Leopoldo, the victim was a 49 year old woman, also without pre-existing diseases. Death occurred on February 13.
In Novo Hamburgo, the victim is a 77 year old man, with comorbidities. The death occurred on March 24th.
São Leopoldo is the city with the most deaths in the statewith six records. Next, Novo Hamburgo appears, with five, and Tenente Portela, in the Northwest Region, with four confirmed victims.

Emergency situation
So far, they are 34.4 thousand confirmed cases of the disease in the state only this year. In the same period, in 2023, Rio Grande do Sul had 6 thousand cases of dengue.

- high fever (39°C to 40°C), lasting two to seven days, retro-orbital pain (behind the eyes)
- headache
- body ache
- joint pain
- general malaise
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- red spots on the skin, with or without itching
Seeking care at the beginning of feelings of physical discomfort is a way to prevent worsening of the disease and possible progression to death. SES indicates the use of repellent also for individual protection against Aedes aegypti.
Measures to prevent the proliferation and circulation of the insect, by cleaning and reviewing the internal and external areas of homes or apartments, prevent the mosquito from being born, cutting the life cycle in the aquatic phase.
