Department of Health holds alignment meeting on arbovirus notification

Given the growth in the number of dengue cases in Pernambuco, the State Department of Health promoted an alignment meeting with directors of regional hospitals in the State and Emergency Care Units (UPAs) this Wednesday (27).

According to the ministry, the idea is to intensify monitoring of the data provided by the Urgency and Emergency Network. On the occasion, the SES-PE technical staff highlighted the need for units to keep notifications of confirmed and suspected cases of dengue, chikungunya and zika up to date.

The meeting presented the most recent numbers from the Arbovirus Epidemiological Bulletin and details of incidence by sex and age, in addition to the spatial distribution of cases reported over the last few months.

The ministry also highlighted the actions taken to control the scenario and combat dengue, zika and chikungunya. SES has been complying with the Coping Plan since 2023 and promotes clinical case management training with professionals from the Regional Health Departments (Geres) and more than 120 municipalities.

“Our idea was to guide and promote awareness among all those present who are part of the network about the recording of data in the system and the collection of blood from the patient so that they can also be carried out in a timely manner. All of this contributes to the quality of the final information and so that we can also make public health decisions in the most strategic and timely way”explained the executive secretary of Health Surveillance and Primary Care, Verônica Cisneiros.

The Ministry of Health decided to send doses of the dengue vaccine to Recife and 153 other cities in the country, observing the criteria established when distributing the first batches: Health Regions with large municipalities with high transmission in the last ten years and population resident equal to or greater than 100 thousand inhabitants, also taking into account high transmission rates in recent months. The information was released this Wednesday (27).

There are 668 thousand doses close to expiration date, scheduled for April 30: 523 thousand in June; and 84 thousand in July. “We cannot let these doses expire. Faced with this, the Ministry came up with a solution: redistribute, within the federated units, that is, within the states, to municipalities that have not yet been covered”, explained the director of the Department of the National Immunization Program (DPNI), Eder Gatti.

The vaccine is intended for people aged 10 to 14, the population that accounts for the highest proportion of hospitalizations due to the disease. The vaccination schedule consists of two doses with an interval of three months between them. The forecast is that next week the redistributed doses will begin to be used, depending on the relocation process specific to each location.

In total, 930 thousand doses will be distributed to the 521 municipalities initially selected and to the 154 now covered by the expansion. Details will be provided in a technical note to be published.

The immunizer reduces cases and, especially, hospitalization due to the disease. As of this Wednesday (27), Brazil recorded 2.3 million probable cases of dengue and 831 deaths.
