The month of March was marked by tragic deaths of children in the North of Santa Catarina. In just two weeks, four children lost their lives in different cities in the region.

The first death occurred on the 13th, in Canoinhas, when a baby aged one year and seven months was forgotten in the car by his mother, and spent around five hours inside the vehicle.
The child was only found when the mother went to pick her up from daycare, and discovered that she had not left her son there. The baby was taken to the hospital already dead, and was a victim of heatstroke.
In a post on social media, the mother warned parents of other children and spoke about the exhaustion she was going through that led to the memory lapse.
“Allow yourself to ask for help! We cannot take care of others if we are not well. Maybe you believe that dedicating all your energy to your child is enough for him to be safe and well. I believed that, but it wasn’t enough.”
Child died after falling into toilet on the North Coast
Just three days after the death of the baby forgotten in the car, a seven-year-old child died after falling into a toilet, in the city of São Francisco do Sul.
Little Alana Emanuelli Franco spent the day with her family at Ervino beach. They were from Guaramirim and decided to go to the house they had rented before returning to their hometown.
The mother says that Alana asked for help to take off her bikini before taking a shower. After helping her, Fernanda Franco closed the door so the girl could take a shower. “In a matter of a minute or two, there was this loud bang. It was like an explosion”, recalls the mother.
According to reports, when trying to change the shower temperature, the girl climbed on top of the toilet bowl, which was a little loose. Alana then fell on the object, which shattered and cut the girl. An artery passing through the armpit was hit.
The firefighters were called, but they already found Alana dead. They tried to contain the bleeding and began transporting him to the hospital. Despite several attempts to contain the bleeding and resuscitate the child, she did not survive.

A baby just 10 months old died during heart surgery, in Barra Velha, on the North Coast of Santa Catarina, on March 22nd. The news was confirmed by the CEI (Early Childhood Education Center) that the boy attended.
“The little one will be greatly missed and his memories will forever be in our hearts”, published the CEI. The city’s Department of Education also issued a note of condolence in solidarity with family and friends.
On social media, the Barra Velha community also paid condolences to the family in publications from the CEI and the Department of Health. “A beautiful little angel who went to live with God”, wrote an internet user.
Youngest among children, baby died in daycare in Planalto Norte
The most recent death recorded in the north of the state was a baby just six months old, the youngest of four children, in a daycare center in Major Vieira, on Tuesday afternoon (26). The case happened at the Estephania Sjabelski Municipal Daycare Center.
The child would have died shortly after lunch, during the period when children sleep in the institution. According to the JMais portal, when the teachers went to wake the boy up for his afternoon snack, he no longer responded.
The teachers, upon realizing that the boy was unresponsive, sought help from the firefighters, who took the child to the hospital. Despite attempts to revive him, the student did not resist.
According to the Secretary of Education, Marilda Rodecz, “the population of Major Vieira is in mourning”. According to her, the case will be investigated.
“We still don’t know the cause of this child’s death, but all measures are being taken, and investigations are being carried out so that we can discover the cause that led to this child’s death,” he stated.
