The provider of information technology solutions and services Gateware participates in a new era of technological transformation in the agro-industrial sector in the Tocantins region, in the North of Brazil, by taking on the challenge of Organizational Change Management (GMO) within the largest company in the sector of the state’s agribusiness.

As part of its expansion plans, the reference company in soybeans and producer of oil made from the grain in Tocantins decided to migrate to SAP S/4HNANA, an integrated business management ERP, and intends to triple its billion-dollar revenue through industrial and financial control, with the training of key users.

According to Gateware’s GMO, João Uccella, despite being a very prosperous state, Tocantins is poorly served, as not everyone is interested in traveling to the region to work.

“The Tocantins region lacks technology and technological training, unlike other states where large companies in the same sector are located, such as Paraná, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Those key users they are practically unique in the region”, says the change manager.

The knowledge that Gateware provides to the team of employees in the Tocantins industry, Uccella estimates, is something pioneering in terms of job market potential. “Other companies will mirror what the company is managing to build in Tocantins and will certainly follow the same pace, which increases the offer a little”, he assesses.

GMO in everyday life

Gateware’s GMO explains that SAP’s ERP has several modules. “All the people who buy soy, control the search for that soy, find the producer, offer the best price, all of this is now within SAP, which is the ACM module. So, this brings the soy into the industry and takes this soy to a warehouse, which is logistics and storage”, explains Uccella.

Soybeans can be sold or kept in a rented warehouse, with the possibility of being used by industry, which can use the grain to produce oil, instead of letting it sit around and spoil. “When the producer sells soybeans to a third party, the soybeans used to produce oil are sought on the market and the stock is replenished. It is SAP that does everything from controlling input, soybean stock, how much soybeans I need for the oil industry and other derivative products, such as soybean hulls, pelleted soybeans, neutralized soybeans and a series of products, and SAP does this management.”

Market confidence

SAP’s great history is the financial control perspective. Everything you do within SAP generates a log of action, explains Gateware’s GMO. “Any comma changed within SAP is possible to know who changed it, and this brings recognition to the company that has SAP in the same proportion. If there is a big investor, who is in the market and knows what tools are in the big financial markets, this company wins points with him, because the market knows how reliable SAP is in the world”, he says.

SAP also reduces several manual processes, says Uccella. “The company can reclassify its team, give it a chance to grow. In Tocantins, for example, there is no technology reference that is being acquired. It’s knowledge that few people have.”

When we talk about such a huge technological transformation, it is worth highlighting that it does not depend on the chosen ERP. At the end of the day, whoever “pushes the button” is always a person. Therefore, it was necessary know-how on the topic is essential for the project to be successful. The work of GMO Change Management at Gateware key users and others stakeholders of the project makes a difference both in the company and in the development of the region.
