When participating in the signing ceremony of the ‘National Pact for Vaccination Awareness’ this Tuesday, 26th, governor Fábio Mitidieri highlighted that not taking a vaccine means not saving lives. The state manager recalled that Brazilians have always had the habit of getting vaccinated and that, thanks to this behavior, the country managed to eradicate some diseases.

“And whether due to relaxation or political polarization, we saw our vaccination rates drop. So, we need to return to public policies to encourage vaccination and show the gains that a society has by getting vaccinated,” he said.

In addition to preventing diseases, Fábio Mitidieri reinforced that the practice of getting vaccinated saves lives and makes a difference in the future of new generations. “Count on the full support of the State Government so that we can further disseminate these public policies”, he added.

Before arriving in Sergipe, the action of the vaccination pact has already passed through some states through the president of the Health Commission of the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP), Jayme Martins de Oliveira Neto. According to him, the national action was launched with the aim of depolarizing the vaccination issue. “The issue of vaccine awareness arose from the observation of a drop in vaccination numbers. The vaccine that is in the national immunization plan, therefore has already passed rigorous scientific controls, but it no longer has to be an object of discussion, it has to be an object of application”, he insisted.

Furthermore, the idea of the vaccination pact is to seek dialogue with municipal and state authorities and with civil society, so that everyone can help municipalities achieve the necessary vaccination coverage.

Also supporting the cause, the Attorney General of the Public Ministry of Sergipe, Manoel Cabral Neto, said that the body could not avoid joining the national pact in favor of vaccination. “I congratulate the Health Commission of the National Council of the Public Ministry for mobilizing civil society and public entities so that we take the issue related to life and health more seriously, vaccinating the population en masse and preventing it from various diseases”, he stated.

Sergipe and vaccination

Present at the ceremony, the Secretary of State for Health, Walter Pinheiro, considered that this is yet another action that intensifies the need for the population of Sergipe to continue vaccinating. “We have one of the largest health systems in the world, which is our SUS, and one of the flagships has always been vaccination coverage, but in recent years we have noticed a loss of awareness among the population,” he noted.

For the manager, signing the pact on the eve of seasonal cases of flu syndromes reinforces how much people need to pay attention to the vaccination schedule. “Vaccines help prevent diseases and help the urgency and emergency system not to be stressed,” he added.
