The State Government celebrated, this Tuesday (26/3), the five years of the Transforma Minas program – the main initiative for the selection, development and engagement of leaders of the Executive branch, managed by the State Secretariat for Planning and Management (Seplag- MG). At an event held in the auditorium of Fundação João Pinheiro (FJP), in Belo Horizonte, the main results of the strategic project were presented, such as the appreciation of the culture of managing people based on merit and competence.

Since its creation, in 2019, Transforma Minas has promoted 501 selection processes for leadership for 24 bodies and entities of the Government of Minas. In addition, central and regional managers participated in training and development actions that totaled more than 100 hours of dedication. The program also carried out a survey with more than 1,300 employees to expand the tools to strengthen the engagement of leaders and teams.

The lessons learned in people management throughout the program were highlighted by vice-governor Professor Mateus. He recalled that leader development actions are essential to establish the organizational culture of the Government of Minas.

“With Transforma Minas, the State is moving towards the professionalization of senior public administrative management, whether career managers or broad recruitment managers. We work on the premise of professionalizing through the modernization of public reality, not bureaucratization. Only in this way are we able to deliver the work that miners expect from us,” he stated.

In a video shown to event participants, the Secretary of State for Planning and Management, Luísa Barreto, said that the preparation of leaders is important not only for the internal organization of the Government, but also for delivering quality public services to the population. “For this to happen, we also need the engagement of all employees. This is the front of Transforma Minas that will be deepened in 2024,” she added.

Constant development

The Deputy Secretary of Planning and Management, Luís Otávio Milagres, thanked the Government for the support for the program and reinforced that the initiative has become a national reference in people management, especially for promoting open, transparent and competitive selection processes.

“It is very difficult to break out of the routine that demands a lot from us to think about innovative projects that are capable of enabling the cultural transformation that the State needs. With the open Transforma Minas process, we were able to identify professionals who can make a difference and help us in this transformation”, defined the secretary.

The Undersecretary of People Management at Seplag-MG, Kênnya Kreppel, recalled that the great difference of the initiative, launched five years ago, is that it remains constantly updated. “We started in 2019 with the Attraction and Selection front and, today, we already have two others: Development and Performance and Engagement. Transforma Minas is not a pre-formatted program, it has the premise of following the demands and needs of the Public Administration and managers, and always adapting to the context, to enhance the gains and quality of public service”, she highlighted.

Example for the country

Transforma Minas’ activities have the support of Vamos – a coalition of third sector organizations, formed by the Lemann Foundation, Instituto Humanize and República.org – and the non-profit organization Motriz, resulting from the merger, this year, of Vetor Brasil and from the Gesto Institute.

The executive director of República.org, Helena Wajnman, stressed that the Minas Gerais initiative is a model to be followed by other states and municipalities in which the Vamos coalition acts as a consultant in leadership management projects.

“We are immensely proud to see how far the State has come. The experience of Minas, as it is more consolidated, is widely used as a reference in many other territories where we are present. You show that this change in culture around people management is possible, this is a legacy for the State and for the whole of Brazil”, he stated.

The highlight of Minas Gerais was also highlighted by Motriz’s project implementation coordinator, Julimária Sousa. She highlighted the preparation and commitment of state employees to the development of the program. “Minas is one of the territories that began to be monitored by us, back in 2019, and which today is the most advanced in this structuring of policies for leadership management”.
