Server denies ambulance to resident who spoke badly about city hall in ES

A resident of Nova Venécia, in the northwest of Espírito Santo, had his request for ambulance service denied by a city hall employee. A man called the center requesting the service for an acquaintance who had allegedly been injured. The employee, however, said “no” to the request, claiming that the patient had “spoken badly about the administration”.

The audio with the conversation circulated in messaging app groups over the weekend and gained repercussion in the city (listen above). The mayor spoke later (see more below). The call was to a city center that regulates the municipality’s own ambulance service.

As soon as the server answered the call, the requester said that a resident was injured and needed help from an ambulance. “The city hall watchman, who works at the bus station. He fell there, he lives there in Perdido and, apparently, he broke his foot.”

The attendant interrupted and asked: “Huh, are you near him?” The applicant said no. “Leave him there. I’m not going to answer him. Let him manage”, replied the server. The resident who called still asked: “Why?” Then the server replied: “Ah, he speaks very badly about the administration.”

The man on the line tries to insist: “But he’s a citizen, right?” The server responds again: “Leave it alone. It’s Samu, tell him to call Samu.” “What is Samu’s number?” asks the citizen. “It’s 192,” the attendant said.

The server asked the man to call the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu 192), whose requests are not regulated by the city hall.

The mayor of Nova Venécia, André Fagundes, published a video talking about the subject.

“Since I worked at the hospital, as Secretary of Health and now as Mayor, public policy has to be for everyone. And that’s what I hope, that everyone is treated equally, with respect, with humanization”, he said in the video.

“So, we are going to correct this fact to try to improve the service even further. We are going to solve this problem so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else”, he concluded. Regarding the server who refused service, the mayor and administration did not provide any other statements.
