Teacher reports that she was fired after nude photos of her were leaked by students: ‘I felt violated’

History teacher Bruna Flor de Macedo Barcelos reported that nude photos of her were leaked by students after they accessed private folders on her personal cell phone. After the incident, the teacher was fired from the Doutor Gerson De Faria Pereira State School, located in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, on the outskirts of the Federal District.

“I felt violated, violated. Afterwards, the school management created a letter saying that students felt embarrassed to attend my classes because they had seen my nude photo. A reversal of who was the victim in the situation”, said the teacher.

g1 contacted the State Department of Education (Seduc) to ask for a position, however, there was no response until the last update of the report.

Bruna explained that she lent the device so that students could take photographs of a school event that would later be used in an educational activity. However, they accessed private folders and shared the images with other colleagues.

The teacher reported the leak of the photos to the Civil Police. g1 asked the responsible delegate for information about the case, but did not receive a response until the last update of the report.

The teacher said that the school management found out about what happened after a coordinator saw several students gathered and, upon approaching, saw that they were looking at a naked photo of Bruna.

“I worked until the fifth hour normally, without knowing anything, while everyone was already aware of the situation, I only found out at 6 pm when the director, at the end of the day, called me to a meeting, saying it was just me between me and her. But there were six people in the room, I felt inhibited and that’s where she told me the fact, I was shocked”, recalled the teacher.

After the situation, the teacher said that she began to be mistreated in the school environment by colleagues and management. According to the teacher, she had a five-year contract with the school and the dismissal occurred less than eight months after the contract began, in 2023.

In response to a letter in defense of the teacher, the school stated that the school regulations stipulate that teachers cannot lend their personal cell phones to students. The institution also highlighted that the decisions were taken in accordance with the Child and Adolescent Statute, which advocates the full protection of children and their rights. Furthermore, the institution claimed that it instructed the teacher to contact the police.

Bruna Flor de Macedo Barcelos argued that the cell phone was borrowed because the school did not have devices that could film and that recording the event, which was part of Black Consciousness Month, was important. “Asking students to register an activity is giving them autonomy, it has essential value for a free human being and citizen,” she stated.
