Presentations of artistic gymnastics, taekwondo, judo, karate and fencing with children and teenagers who practice these modalities in sports spaces of the City Hall marked the opening of the Virada Esportiva de Curitiba 2002, at the end of the morning of this Friday (23/9), at the Memorial Paranista, in São Lourenço Park.
For 48 hours, from the late afternoon of this Friday (23/9) to Sunday (25/9), Virada Esportiva will offer around 200 free activities in more than 100 public and private partner spaces. All of them will be supervised by 400 people, including employees of the Municipal Department of Sport, Leisure and Youth (Smelj), monitors, athletes and representatives of sports entities supported by the Municipal Sports Incentive Program.
There will be activities at all times of the day, including early morning.
encouraging by example
“This is one of the ways to encourage sport as a routine that is increasingly present in the life and culture of society”, stressed the municipal secretary of Sport, Leisure and Youth, Carlos Eduardo Pijak Júnior. The objective of Virada Esportiva 2022 is to publicize the different modalities, encourage the practice of sports from initiation to high performance and reinforce the role of sport as an instrument of socialization, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of regular physical activity for the improvement in quality of life.
Fencing students at Centro de Esporte e Lazer CIC João Lucca de Oliveria Godoi, 10, and Salomé Marin, 11, are examples of this goal. In addition to this sport, João practices futsal, soccer and capoeira, while Salomé attends capoeira and volleyball classes. “We only rest on Thursdays,” said João, who took the opportunity to visit the Paranista Memorial – the city’s green space that houses the João Turin Sculpture Garden.
