The Mato Grosso Federation of Industries System (Fiemt System), through the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai MT) and the Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL MT), in partnership with Rumo, the largest railway logistics operator in Brazil, launch the largest recruitment and professional qualification program in Mato Grosso. Nos Trilhos de Mato Grosso aims to recruit, select and train people to work in the contractors responsible for the construction of the Senador Emílio Vuolo State Railway. In total, the action will benefit more than 4 thousand workers involved in the entire project.

In partnership with Senai, at this stage, the program will offer 280 free places on professional qualification courses. 14 face-to-face classes will be held, seven at the Senai unit in Rondonópolis and seven in Jaciara. The courses offered are for construction assistants, heavy structure builders, construction carpenters, construction foremen with an emphasis on earthmoving and construction, dump truck, kite and crane operator, excavator operator and masonry builder.

The training consists of 20 hours of initiation into Railway Systems, also covering health, safety and the environment; from 160 to 420 hours with specific training in 16 different professional qualification courses; and 8 to 16 hours with knowledge of regulatory standards (NR 12 for machine operators, NR 35 for assemblers and NR 18 in all training courses).

Another work front will be carried out by IEL MT, which will provide an exclusive talent pool to be accessed by Rumo and the companies that are part of the works. “This bank will be fed by actions led by the Institute, such as the Jobs Fair. The program aims to stimulate the generation of jobs, with qualified people seeking an opportunity in the job market for the vacancies offered by companies”, highlighted IEL MT Business Manager, Bruna Faria.

Rumo hopes to attract talents of all levels to carry out work on this new operational section of the railway. For those interested in participating in professional training, Rumo’s Employer Brand manager, Tiago Proba, highlights the challenge that the project has in reaching more than 4 thousand jobs in 2024 alone.

“These are people directly linked to the construction of the railway. Contractors have the capacity to absorb the public of local professionals who are qualified. Professionals who pass through the MT Trilhos Program classes will have great possibilities of being employed within the construction of the railway. They will be evaluated during the course and directed to the vacancies they are potentially suitable for”, explains Proba.

The Railway

Starting in November 2022, work on the new railway will be more than 700 kilometers long and will connect the municipalities of Rondonópolis, Cuiabá and Lucas do Rio Verde. Expected to be completed within a maximum period of 10 years, the works will cover 16 municipalities in Mato Grosso, stimulating the generation of direct and indirect jobs.

The creation of jobs will be one of the railway’s greatest legacies. Since work began, the railway has already mobilized more than 1,000 professionals in the construction of the first railway viaduct in Rondonópolis delivered in the first half of 2023 and in five other viaducts that are under construction between Rondonópolis and Juscimeira. The company is also carrying out earthworks along 35 km of the projected route heading towards the Middle-North.
