The 60-year-old woman fell ill and the Fire Department was called to help. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the woman had already died.

In a statement, Itaú Unibanco said it deeply regrets what happened and offered solidarity to the family.

According to the bank, the customer had a sudden illness at the entrance of the branch, and then all emergency protocols were immediately activated, including medical assistance.

“Out of respect for the victim, customers and employees, the unit will remain closed. Employees have been welcomed and will receive all necessary psychological support. Customers who need in-person assistance should look for the nearby unit, branch 8486 (Av. Cônego Vasconcelos) or access the Itaú’s digital channels”, added the bank.

A video taken by bank attendants shows that Érika was constantly trying to hold the man’s head up, using her hand, and talking to the supposed relative – who, of course, didn’t respond. .

Judge Luciana Mocco, head of the 2nd Criminal Court of Bangu, accepted the complaint from the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), which made Érika a defendant for attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse.

In the same decision, the judge also revoked the preventive detention of the elderly man’s niece and she will now respond to the case in freedom, as long as she complies with the established precautionary measures.

She also began to be investigated, in another investigation, for manslaughter – when there is no intention to kill – due to serious “failure to provide assistance”. The investigation is underway at the Civil Police, which will still decide whether to indict Érika for this crime.

The police chief cited new evidence to include the crime of homicide. According to him, two statements reveal that Érika tried to set up her own account to receive the money from her uncle and that she even went to the agency without him to withdraw it – even though she knew he would need to sign it.
