Natal started to apply, from this Wednesday (8), the rabies vaccine in professionals who work with bathing and grooming activities for dogs and catsand also in veterinary assistants.

The inclusion of these groups in vaccination follows a technical standard published by the State Department of Public Health of RN (Sesap) to avoid the loss of doses of the anti-rabies vaccine valid until June 2024.

The selection of groups takes place, according to the Natal Municipal Health Department (SMS), due to the exposure of these types of professionals to the rabies virus.

To get vaccinated, professionals must look for one of the basic health units in Natal or one of the extra vaccination points with:

  • prescription signed by a veterinarian;
  • or declaration of employment issued by the establishment where the professional works.

“It is important that professionals appear with this documentation, as vaccination only takes place with proof that the professional is exposed to the disease virus”, explained the head of the Center for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (NAI), Veruska Ramos.

Other professionals – such as veterinarians, biologists and workers in virology laboratories and pathology professionals for rabies, for example – were already able to receive the anti-rabies vaccine.
