Plan a trip away for months, with an itinerary of programs that fill the day and where using your cell phone is prohibited, organize moments with the family in which, finally, the disconnection will be 100%. For architect Mauricio Pinheiro Lima, you don’t need that much to rest. On the contrary, it is part of his weekly routine. Almost every Friday is the day to go with the husband and the couple’s dog to the house he designed near the center of Morretes, a city close to Curitiba.

The idea of having a space in a location close enough to reach in less than two hours, but far enough to disconnect from the capital came with the pandemic and the desire to get in touch with nature.

“The idea was to buy a space where we could somehow take care of nature a little. Of the 10 thousand m² area, eight thousand m² are for environmental protection, in which we are redoing the forest”, says Mauricio, who followed the entire execution of the work.

More than taking advantage of the benefits of a quieter region, the construction of the 75 m² house, which has Brazilian design as its main reference, was made using products from local construction material stores. Lima also mentions the enchantment with the relationships built around the property. With the consumption of products such as honey, organic vegetables and bread, local consumption is strengthened, as well as the feeling of being part of a community.

New experiences close to home

Leaving their apartment in the center of Curitiba to put their foot on the ground and be able to get in touch with the diversity present in the Atlantic forest of Paraná is already a routine for photographer Eduardo Macarios and his wife, Evelyn Lo. Sítio Guadalupe, as the couple nicknamed it, is a property measuring around eight hectares close to conservation areas in São José dos Pinhais.

The search for a place of our own in the middle of nature was a process shared with friends and in favor of a balance between the convenience of living in a region close to work and various facilities and having an area to completely disconnect. “It takes about an hour from the front door to the farm gate, something that we consider close and easy to get to. This makes it a lot easier and was important in deciding the location”, says the photographer.

Although the desire to acquire a space like this had lasted for years, the purchase only took place after a long evaluation. “We made a few visits before deciding to make the purchase and, on one of them, we walked a trail through practically the entire area”, says Macarios.

It was an eight-hour walk through the forest to reach the Guaratubinha River, which runs at the bottom of the property and has a variety of waterfalls and natural pools.

“My wife and I went under one of the waterfalls and it was there that we decided that we needed to buy this place. This is our area, it’s what we want, it’s what we were looking for”, he adds.

While today the land is used for trails or camping, in the future, the idea is to build one or more cabins to share good times with friends and family. “The land took on another meaning after the birth of our daughter because we think it is an area that will be a big part of her life. This is where we hope she will have these memories of living with nature”, concludes Macarios.

Collective movement

“I always joke that the house is an extension of the body”, says doctor in Sociology Aline Mara Gumz Eberspacher. Far beyond a physical space, she defends the house as “a home with a feeling of belonging, where it is possible to feel like myself”. For her, everything inside the house – pictures, flowers, furniture – is capable of describing who the residents are. For these reasons, designing these spaces requires much more than technical skill.

Chaotic traffic, the high cost of living and the lack of security are the main factors raised by Aline as reasons for moving to the interior, whether for short periods or permanently. “Another positive factor that we observe in smaller communities is the strong social life, the feeling of belonging, of being part of a community”, he adds.

In addition to older people, who move after retirement, Aline mentions independent professionals who live temporarily in different places and the younger generation, who are already entering the job market with the prospect of a life with more balance between obligations and work. rest, as audiences who opt for this change.

Tendency to live

Transforming houses into true refuges that reflect the owners’ personality is the work of architect Wilson Pinto. With a portfolio of projects that have well-being as a priority, including the Suryaa Lifestyle Hotel, a boutique hotel in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, he sees houses in the countryside as excellent investments. This is because, with land generally having a much lower value compared to those in large urban centers, projects have the possibility of being much larger and more comfortable.

The major concern in works like these is the use of compatible materials to maintain comfort and suited to the local nature, following necessary environmental and sustainability parameters. “I take care that the client has maximum comfort with the environmental condition respected”, says the architect.

When you choose to build in a new location, your needs also change. In the countryside, for example, it is essential to think about thermal and acoustic comfort, as well as resources such as heated floors and window screens.” If I were to give one tip to someone who wants to live a life in the countryside, it is: have a house that has technology. enough to support it”, he adds.
