Manaus searches for people not immunized against yellow fever, and advises unvaccinated users to look for one of the more than 170 vaccination rooms in the Primary Care Network to receive the vaccination. In February this year, a 63-year-old man died from the disease, which had Presidente Figueiredo, in the interior of Amazonas, as the likely site of infection.

The complete list of vaccination rooms, with addresses and opening hours, is available on the website. See where to get vaccinated.

The yellow fever vaccine is part of the basic vaccination schedule for children aged 9 months to under 5 years, with a booster dose at 4 years of age. The vaccine is also indicated for the entire unvaccinated population aged 5 to 59 years, in a single dose.

“These people who have never received the vaccine can go to any Semsa immunization point, simply presenting an identity document and SUS card”, advises the immunization manager at the Municipal Health Department (Semsa), Isabel Hernandes.

Isabel reinforces that vaccination is recommended for the entire population and, in particular, for those who live in riverside and rural areas, as well as people who live or work close to forested regions of the municipality.

The vaccine is not recommended for people allergic to any component of the vaccine, immunosuppressed people and pregnant women, and should be evaluated by a doctor if traveling to risk areas.

Breastfeeding women who are vaccinated must suspend breastfeeding of babies under 6 months of age for 28 days.

Yellow fever is an endemic disease in the Amazon region, also occurring from time to time in other regions of the country. Most cases occur between December and May.

Outbreaks of the disease can occur when the virus encounters favorable conditions for transmission, such as high temperatures, high density of vectors (mosquitoes) and primate hosts, and low vaccination coverage.
